Authorities ID 35-year-old Georgetown man who died while skiing at Loveland Ski Area

Authorities have identified the 35-year-old man at Loveland Ski Area died after apparently striking a tree.

Cole Barker, of Georgetown, was found unresponsive near the base of a tree near the bottom of Lift 8 on the ski area’s north side. When help arrived, the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office says, Barker had no vital signs.

He was pronounced dead by Clear Creek EMS.

“The Clear Creek Sheriff’s Office along with the Clear Creek Coroner are continuing to investigate the manner and cause of death,” the sheriff’s office said. “An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.”

Loveland says Barker was wearing a helmet.

“Ski Patrol was in the area and responded immediately,” Loveland said in a brief news release. “Loveland Ski Area wishes to express its sincere condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragic event.”
