Aurora police are investigating an officer-involved shooting Saturday near the intersection of East Colfax Avenue and Sable Boulevard in which a person was injured.

The shooting victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries, Aurora police spokeswoman Diana Cooley said. The person’s gender and age were not released.

No officers were injured during the incident.

Aurora police were conducting surveillance on the suspect, who was wanted in connection with aggravated motor vehicle theft, Cooley said. Officers learned the suspect was in a vehicle in the area of Colfax and Sable, she said.

Officers attempted to arrest the suspect, but the person fled in the vehicle, she said. The suspect’s vehicle ended up in what Cooley described as a ditch.

“During the incident, shots were fired by one of our officers,” Cooley said. “The suspect was hit.”

Sable Boulevard remained closed in both directions at Colfax Avenue at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

The incident remains under investigation, Cooley said. Denver police are assisting in the investigation.
