A juvenile suspect has been arrested in connection with last year’s Fort Collins clown hoax in which a school threat was made via social media. The suspect’s name was released.
On Sept. 28, 2016, Fort Collins police were notified of a school threat made against students at Poudre High School via a Facebook account whose profile picture was a clown carrying black balloons, a news release said. The threat came during a series of menacing incidents made by clowns throughout Colorado and the nation.
The student who received the threat posted the information on the “Let’s Talk Wellington” Facebook page, which caused panic throughout the community, the Fort Collins police news release said.
Law enforcement launched an investigation and deemed the threat as not credible, but officer presence at Poudre High School was increased for several days following the initial threat as a precaution.
Fort Collins police determined the threatening clown post was made by a Poudre School District student. The student was charged with interference with staff, faculty or students of an educational institution, a Class 1 misdemeanor.
