A group focused on boosting the number and success of women in technology, legal and policy professions will meet this month to support a new chapter of the organization in Denver.

The Colorado chapter of , or ChIPs, will meet for a lunch reception and panel discussion, “Pay it Forward: How You Can Help Build the Pipeline for Women in STEM.”

Organizers hope to identify and discuss “key issues that will accelerate innovation and progress; provide information about various STEM groups and the volunteer/support opportunities available; encourage and empower women to pursue patent rights; encourage girls to invent from an early age through exposure in the classroom to STEM; educate women on the vast number of opportunities open to individuals with STEM degrees; and help women build networks.”

Speakers are Violeta Garcia, who has created STEM programs for educators and students; Patty Lopez, a senior engineer for Intel and volunteer for the National Center for Women in Information Technology; and Melissa Risteff, co-founder and CEO of Couragion, an interactive app that exposes students to STEM careers through videos, games and self-reflection quizzes.

The free event is scheduled noon to 1:30 p.m. April 20 at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, 1961 Stout St. in Denver.
