However Sgt. Scott Gilbertsen, a Fountain police spokesman, said initial reports were that the shooting was accidental. Investigators had said Sunday that the girl was much younger, possibly 3 or 4 years old.

Investigators say the girl remains in critical condition at Memorial Hospital’s pediatric intensive care unit, but has been stabilized.

“The investigation is continuing into the circumstance surrounding the child’s injury,” Fountain police said in a news release.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Fountain police at 719-382-8555.
