Dianne Primavera took the reins of the breast cancer fighting organization effective April 17, according to a Komen Colorado news release.
Primavera served in the state legislature for eight years as the representative for House District 33 in Broomfield. During her tenure in the statehouse, Primavera held terms as chair and member of public health care, human services and health insurance committees.
A 28-year breast cancer survivor and mother of two adult daughters, Primavera is a long-time supporter of Komen and its mission.
“I infused my passion to end breast cancer into my entire legislative career,” Primavera said in the release. “I was able to bring many diverse stakeholders together to pass bipartisan legislation, improve access to mammography and clinical trials, and help to align the law with the community’s need to prevent, diagnose, treat and provide palliative care for those unable to beat the illness.”
She was picked for the post among more than 125 candidates.
Primavera holds multiple college degrees including a masters of arts degree in vocational rehabilitation counseling from the University of Northern Colorado.
Since its founding in 1982, Komen has funded more than $920 million in research and provided more than $2 billion in funding to screening, education, treatment and support programs serving millions of people in more than 30 countries worldwide.
