A fire in a Westminster condominium complex on Monday damaged several units, and one resident was rescued from a second-floor unit by ladder.

The fire started at about 3:30 p.m. in the 12100 block of Melody Drive, according to the Westminster Fire Department.

The fire broke out on a stove in the kitchen of a second-floor unit.

Firefighters arrived on scene, three minutes after a 911 call, to heavy smoke coming from the involved unit.

Firefighters were alerted to a resident in an adjacent unit who was trapped inside by the heavy smoke. Firefighters raised a ladder to the trapped resident’s unit and were able to rescue the resident, who was uninjured.

The fire, which was contained to one unit, was under control in about 30 minutes and extinguished in about 45 minutes. Some adjacent units, however, were damaged by smoke and water.

Two people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, as was a pet cat.

Several residents have been misplaced by the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
