Fremont County detective under investigation for keeping bloody evidence in storage unit retires

A Fremont County Sheriff’s Office detective, who is being investigated by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation for keeping bloody evidence in a storage unit, has retired.

Robert Dodd officially retired Sunday after 25 years of service, sheriff’s office public information officer Megan Richards said in an email Monday.

after evidence,including a bloody rope, an ax and boxes of paperwork, were of Cañon City after he purchased it in an auction in December.

The , 17, who was found dead Aug. 15, 2006, in her family home in the Copper Gulch area. Hiltz suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Susan Medina, public information officer for CBI, could not be reached for comment on whether Dodd’s retirement would affect the investigation.
