A Black Forest woman was sentenced on Thursday to 60 days in jail dating back to 2014 that involved horses and llamas, prosecutors say.

Sherri Ann Brunzell was ordered to report to jail by 7 p.m. on Thursday night to begin serving her penalty, according to the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. The 65-year-old .

She was also acquitted of six counts in the case, court records show.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office began investigating Brunzell in September 2014 after at least a dozen horses were found at a property on the 5400 block of Burgess Road. The animal’s bodies were covered by tarps in a barn there, investigators said, and also horses at the site appeared to be malnourished.

A sheriff’s  the horses died over the winter from colic. Several horses were removed from the property during the investigation.

The newspaper says a until all appeals in the case were heard and that she had earlier expressed remorse for her actions.
