An 18-year-old man has been arrested by Thornton police in the death Monday night of his girlfriend’s 3-month-old child.
Isaiah Marquez was booked into the Adams County jail on suspicion of reckless and knowing child abuse causing death.
Officers were called about 10:15 p.m. to the 9100 block of Gale Boulevard on reports that the infant was not breathing and unconscious. When first responders got to the scene, they found the child with “non-accidental trauma.”
The baby was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
“The cause of death will be determined by the Adams County Coroner’s Office,” Thornton police said in a news release Tuesday.
Marquez is the boyfriend of the child’s biological mother, and is not the father of the victim, investigators say.
Police say the case remains under active investigation. The child’s name has not been released.
