Paraglider crashes in Castle Rock, suffers serious injuries

Pilot who had been flying solo was found unconscious, likely caught in downdraft

A paraglider was injured Wednesday in a crash in Castle Rock.

Emergency personnel responded to the incident at about 1:25 p.m. and found the pilot, who had been flying solo, unconscious, according to a town news release.

The crash happened near Castle Rock Middle School, 2575 Meadows Blvd., and the pilot, who was not identified, was taken to a hospital in serious condition with multiple fractures.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. Preliminary indications are that the pilot was caught in a downdraft.
