These historic roads wind through Colorado’s high country allowing access to beautiful vistas normally revered for mountaineers on foot. Pikes Peak Highway, Mount Evans Scenic Byway and Trail Ridge Road are all historic Colorado roads above 12,000 feet. Mount Evans Byway and Trail Ridge Road lead to the top of mountains above 14,000 feet. Due to snow pack the roads are only open in the summer and take several weeks of snow remove before they can open for traffic.
