Re: June 9 Jon Caldara column.
Jon Caldara is right in that most of the energy that heats the Earth is from the sun. The extra heat that is trapped by additional greenhouse gases caused by human activity is a fraction of the total heat trapped by the atmosphere. But the extra heat increases the temperature of the air, water and land. It also speeds up the melting of ice and the evaporation of water into water vapor. A small but significant change is all that is needed to tip the balance of the ecosystem.
Caldara attacks the messengers of climate change in an attempt to discredit the underlying message. This ad hominem attack is a good debate tactic but does not advance our technical understanding of a serious topic.
While Russia is not likely to make major changes, I suspect China will see a business opportunity to develop and sell clean energy to the world.
