Ex-El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa is headed for .
The retrial of Maketa was set for Oct. 3 on Monday when lawyers and 4th Judicial District Judge Larry E. Schwartz had a conference call to discuss Maketa’s partial mistrial last week.
Last week, Maketa was acquitted on three charges and had a deadlocked jury on his four other counts. alleging that Maketa threatened to yank a $5-million-per-year healthcare contract unless the contractor fired a woman who had crossed him politically.
Prosecutors with the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, which is handling the case, declined to comment to The Gazette, through a spokeswoman, citing an ongoing gag order in the case.
