Little library book exchanges are popping up in parks, playgrounds, sporting fields and even in front of libraries in Aurora.

Almost two dozen “little library” locations, built and installed in Aurora since 2014, were created by city employees and residents aiming to increase access to books by stashing the tiny book borrowing cubbies in neighborhoods and high traffic areas all over Aurora. As of last month, there are four new little libraries in front of the Hoffman, Tallyn’s Reach, Central and Mission Viejo Libraries, adding to the city’s growing list of wooden box book exchange stations dotted in dense and family-friendly areas.

The little libraries use a “take a book, leave a book” honor system. Anyone who stumbles upon the tiny book cabinets can snag an interesting title stored inside for free, but must either return the book or replace it with another to keep the cycle going and the choices fresh and interesting. The Aurora Public Library’s outreach staff stocks the books from donations from the Friends of the Aurora Public Library. City staff also coordinates all little library installations in the city, and periodically visits to restock if the supply appears to be dwindling.

Aurora’s “little libraries” have been added to the , an international map of “little library” locations. Here are some of the best places to check out little libraries and the books they have to offer.
