Two hikers reportedly found a shin-high wire stretched across the Barr Trail about 1.5 miles down from Barr Camp west of Colorado Springs on Monday afternoon.

At about 7 p.m. Monday, Deborah Burkart posted to the Barr Camp Facebook page saying she had discovered the wire earlier. In the post, she said it would had tripped her had she not looked down and would have taken down a bicycle “for sure.”

Burkart said she removed the wire from both sides and put it in a bush on the side of the trail. Burkart could not be reached.

The U.S. Forest Service and El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said they had no information on the wire.

“This is very unfortunate and discouraging,” said Barb Timock, spokeswoman for the Pikes Peak Ranger District.
