The Berthoud Pass Ski Area opened to skiers in 1937, with a V-8-powered rope tow. In the 1980s, owners Ike and Lucy Garst made history as the country’s first resort operators to embrace snowboarders. Demolition crews razed the 30,000-square-foot ski lodge in 2003, which had sheltered visitors to Colorado’s oldest ski area for 56 years.
