A solo guitarist who performed with members of Firefall, America and the Pure Prairie League will perform in a benefit concert Saturday for parents, children and siblings of victims of unsolved murder and missing persons cases.
The concert from 4 and 8 p.m. will be at Roger’s Grove Park, 220 Hover Road in Longmont. It will feature Don Chapman, who often performs with Firefall’s Larry Burnett, and Southern Fried, a vocal and guitar duo.
Texas Roadhouse and other vendors will sell food at the concert sponsored by the Colorado victims advocacy group, Families of Victims of Homicide and Missing Persons, and Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers, according to Robert Wells, the group’s executive director. Local and state investigators, including some from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, will attend the concert.
Wells’ brother, at the University of Colorado when he was gunned down on Aug. 1, 1983. Sidney Wells was dating Shauna Redford, the daughter of actor Robert Redford, when his body was found in his apartment.
A first-degree murder warrant was filed in 2010 for his roommate, Thayne Smika, who owed rent to Wells. Police have traced money transfers from a member of Smika’s family to Costa Rica, Robert Wells said.
In all there have been in Colorado since 1970, Robert Wells said.
The concert itself is free. Partial proceeds from food sales, donations and bottled water sales will aid Crime Stoppers and FOHVAMP.
The concert is open to the public. People are asked to bring chairs and blankets.
