Boulder County sheriff’s deputies arrested Barry Morphew on an Alamosa County warrant Thursday night.
Deputies arrested Morphew, 58, about 9:11 p.m. in unincorporated Boulder County on a failure-to-comply charge, according to a Boulder County Sheriff’s Office news release.
Morphew is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Suzanne Morphew, who disappeared from the family’s Chaffee County home in 2020. He had been free on $3 million bail for a year while awaiting a jury trial, which is scheduled for July 2027.
An Alamosa County District Court judge ordered Morphew on Wednesday to remain at home after it appeared Morphew was involved in a hit-and-run crash in Denver in which he drove aggressively, hit two vehicles and refused to identify himself before leaving the scene.
Under that order, Morphew can only leave his home if he experiences a medical emergency, in which case he must call for an ambulance.
Morphew is being held at the Boulder County Jail on $3 million cash-only bail, court records show.
