A man convicted of fatally shooting another man at a house party in Denver last autumn was sentenced Friday to 48 years in prison.

Salvador Vargas, 33, was convicted in June, after a four-day trial, of second-degree murder, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office.

In the early morning hours of Nov. 27, 2016, Vargas fatally shot 54-year-old Rufino Perez at a house party in the .

Vargas had been shot, and slightly wounded at the same party in an initial confrontation, the DA’s office said in a news release. Vargas later took a gun from his wife’s purse and shot Perez several times in retaliation.

Vargas was also ordered to pay $13,010 in restitution.
