Boulder police are investigating a fatal shooting at the San Juan Del Centro apartments that happened shortly before 2 a.m. on Saturday.
The shooting occurred inside a vehicle in a parking lot at the complex, police said in a news release, and the shooting victim, a man in his 20s, was taken to Boulder Community Health’s Foothill’s Hospital where he died from his injuries.
Police and Boulder firefighters were seen taking down crime scene tape in a parking lot near the apartment complex’s leasing office at about 10:30 a.m. The leasing office also serves as a Boulder police substation.
A resident who did not give her name said the complex is generally quiet but there has been “violence” during the past few weeks, a possible reference to 18-year-old Bryan Silva-Escalante, who was arrested in late July for allegedly beating up two teenage boys and striking one of them with a beer bottle.
A man who spoke on condition that his name not be used said he was friends with the victim and said the shooting was a suicide. Police have not not released any information on the nature of the shooting but have said there is no continuing threat to the community.
