David Batty, who pleaded guilty to killing a woman, stuffing her body in a trunk and keeping it in the closet of his Greeley apartment, on Monday was sentenced to 48 years in prison.

Batty pleaded guilty to 2nd degree murder in June and faced a maximum of 48 years.
Batty was on parole for domestic violence when he strangled Tonya Webster and sodomized her with a novelty baseball bat. Investigators found the body when Batty failed to show up for work and missed appointments with his parole officer.
“This person – I hate to call him a man – has a history of violence against women,” said Webster’s husband, Randy, while pleading for the maximum sentence. “He killed the mother of two children. He killed my wife. The only thing I can say is there’s no replacing her.”
According to investigators, Batty and Webster were in a sexual relationship at the time she was killed.
Deputy district attorney Tate Costin called Batty “too dangerous of a person to be in this community,” and noted that it was appropriate that he received 48 years in jail because Tonya Webster would have turned 48 the year she was killed.
