A man was shot and killed late Monday night after Colorado Springs police were called out on a report of shoplifting at the Walmart at East Platte Avenue and North Circle Drive, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Officers were called to the store about 11:36 p.m., but the suspect ran when they approached, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Jacqueline Kirby. Police chased him several blocks south to the 3200 block of East Bijou Street, where the man was shot and killed, she said without elaborating.
Investigators have not identified the suspect or said whether he was armed.
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with Colorado Springs Police Department policy.
