The Colorado Springs man smashed into a guard rail early Thursday morning and repeatedly tried but couldn’t get his Ford Explorer to run again.

A Good Samaritan approached the inoperable white and brown SUV on the 3700 block of 1700 Eyrie Dr. at 12:36 a.m.to see if the accident victim needed help, spotted a shotgun in the SUV and called police, according to a Colorado Springs police report.

When police responded, they realized the man was the same suspect they’d been searching for after getting a report nine minutes earlier about a man menacing his wife with a gun, the report says.

Police arrested Branden Kumley, 37, for investigation of felony domestic violence. felony drunken driving and multiple misdemeanors, Colorado Springs police said.

“Mr. Kumley was intoxicated and not compliant with officers who had to tackle him to the ground,” according to a police report by officers in the Falcon Division.
