Regarding the absence of cash to offer pandhandlers, my solution is to buy a few gift cards to have handy in my car or wallet — gift cards for grocery stores, fast-food places, for a minimum amount of $10 or $15.

These are easy to obtain while buying groceries, and easy to give to those on the street who are probably destitute, needing even small amounts of sustainment. These cards can offer them groceries or a sandwich or burger to tide them over.

For whole families begging on street corners, I offer two, and tell them to feed the children first.
