Two men, described as being “extremely intoxicated,” were arrested in El Paso County early Friday after a 3-year-old girl was shot in the foot.

Abraham Gutierrez, 26, and Jose Gutierrez, 27, were arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse, second-degree assault, illegal discharge of a firearm and prohibited use of a weapon.

At about 3:50 a.m. Friday deputies responded to the 4400 block of Bamble Drive on a report of an accidental shooting, according to an El Paso County Sheriff’s Office news release. The girl was taken to a hospital in stable condition, the release said.

The suspects were handling a firearm when it was accidentally discharged, the sheriff’s office said. Both men are being held at the El Paso County Jail.
