About 100 dogs and cats were relocated to Colorado so a rescue in Louisiana has space for animals left homeless in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
The now open space at Acadiana Animal Aid west of Baton Rouge will be filled with dogs and cats from the Houston Humane Society and shelters in southwestern Louisiana areas under pre-evacuation notice.
Some of the animals coming to Colorado already had families waiting to adopt them. Others were taken to one of four rescue organizations. The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region took 21 dogs to its Colorado Springs shelter and 17 to its Pueblo facility.
