What does $445,000 buy in South Jeffco this fall? Around Kipling and Bowles, that’ll purchase a four-bedroom home on one-tenth of an acre — or, up scenic Deer Creek Canyon behind the Johns Manville and Lockheed Martin sites, the same sum will get you a four-bedroom on eight full acres, hidden in pines. A couple employed by Martin lived totally secluded there for 30 years before retiring to Panama. Colorado Realty Pros agent Megan Fuller will show you their hideaway Sunday, Sept. 3, with coffee and cookies, noon to 2 p.m.
The location made for and easy commute for Lockheed Martin employees because the tiny village of Deermont, on Deer Creek Canyon Road just below this property, is only six miles, about 12 minutes, behind the hogback. Your drive to 11933 S. Maxwell Hill Road follows past the county’s popular South Valley Park and Deer Creek Canyon trailheads, up the canyon along willows and elms that follow the creek, beneath red rock sentinels and stands of pine that jut out from the canyon wall. Along with being fairly close, Deermont has another advantage over many fancier properties further west into the foothills — itap not too high up (elevation is 6,950 feet).
In addition to the acreage, the $445,000 price gets you 2,286 square feet finished; a knotty-pine-cloaked living-dining-kitchen area with fireplace and newer appliances; a guest bedroom on the main with bath; a master on its own level with soak tub and walk-in shower; plus some finished basement space and a one-car garage. The sellers, says Fuller, put $12,000 into some fix-ups, including a new roof, and will add $10,000 to mitigate some moisture issues that turned up on inspection. That said, this is a place you’ll want to fix up — including the patio in back that has a hut above that, along with the deck, really could work for outdoor parties.
To reach noon-to-2 on Sept. 3, from Wadsworth just south of C-470, take Deer Creek Canyon Road west six miles to a fork, and then bear left, continuing on Deer Creek another two miles, through Deermont, to a left on Maxwell Hill. Megan Fuller is at 720-393-0673.
