A Lafayette man could be facing an attempted murder charge after police said he tried to stab his roommate with a samurai sword following an argument this weekend.
Devin Trey Leach, 22, was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder, felony menacing, obstructing a peace officer, resisting arrest, third-degree assault, criminal mischief, violation of a restraining order and violation of bond conditions.
Lafayette police Cmdr. Brian Rosipajla said police were called at 3:25 a.m. Saturday to an apartment in the 700 block of Lafayette Drive on a report of a fight.
Rosipajla said Leach and one other person were drinking in the apartment when Leach’s roommate came home. Leach began demanding money from the roommate and a verbal argument started.
Leach then began to try and fight his roommate — an adult male — and then grabbed a samurai sword and attempted to stab him, Rosipajla said. The roommate was somehow able to block the attack and locked himself in a bedroom until police arrived.
The roommate had some cuts and scrapes but declined medical treatment on scene.
