A Gilpin County judge sentenced a woman to 24 years in prison after she pushed her way into the Blackhawk home she once shared with her ex-boyfriend and stabbed him.
Michelle ReNae Bialas, 55, attacked James Bynum at the home they had built together, and that she shared with him for almost 20 years.
The couple had a tumultuous relationship, with numerous domestic violence incidents in which Bialas was the aggressor, according to a release from the Jefferson and Gilpin County District Attorney’s Office.
Bialas left the home after Bynum received a protection order restraining her from any contact with him after a domestic violence incident in September 2016.
On Jan. 17, Bialas went to the house at 305 Genevas Way in Blackhawk and knocked on the door. When Bynum opened it, she attacked, slashing the back of his head before he escaped and called police. His injury required 17 staples, the news release said.
A Gilpin County jury found Bialas guilty on July 19. She was sentenced on Aug. 25 for first- and second-degree assault, first-degree burglary and violation of a protection order. They jury acquitted her of attempted murder.
