Despite the grumblings to those who want to see the oil and gas industry kicked out of the state, I think Gov. John Hickenlooper’s thoughtful approach to ensuring the safety those who live in close proximity to oil and gas wells is the right approach.
Certainly more can be done to ensure the confidence of the public, but instead of jumping in full throttle and not understanding potential unintended consequences, taking some time to understand the problem and craft pragmatic solutions is exactly what needs to happen.
No one exists in this state in a vacuum — not residents, not the oil and gas industry, not our state regulators — so convening them and finding something that works for as many of those groups as possible is worthy of praise.
