Dry weather conditions and scattered lightning strikes and strong winds could trigger a few wildfires along the Front Range on Thursday, weather forecasters warn.

“The main threat from storms today will be gusty outflow winds into the 35 to 50 mph range and lightning. Due to the recent dryness and lightning, a few new fire starts will be possible,” according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

It will be mostly sunny with a high temperature of 88 degrees in downtown Denver. Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected mostly after 4 p.m. in the Denver metro area, forecasters say.

The chance for precipitation is about 30 percent. Winds could gust up to 23 mph. Temperatures will drop to around 56 degrees Thursday night.

On Friday it will be sunny with a high temperature of around 81 degrees, the NWS says. There’s a 10 percent chance of afternoon storms.

Temperatures will drop into the 70s on the weekend, with a high of 73 on Saturday and a high of 78 on Sunday. There’s about a 10 percent chance of rain on Saturday afternoon.

Temperatures will range from the low-to-mid 80s Monday through Wednesday. It will be mostly sunny during that period.
