Douglas County officials canceled pre-evacuation notices for more than 3,000 homes Friday night as firefighters worked to contain a 46-acre brush fire.

The fire, which started around 6 p.m., is near the Highlands Ranch Law Enforcement Training Facility at 6001 Ron King Trail, according to the South Metro Fire Rescue Authority.

The pre-evacuation notice was canceled around 8:30 p.m.

There were no immediate reports of injuries. The smoke plume is visible from parts of Santa Fe Drive and C-470.

The training center includes a firing range. The cause of the fire has not been released.

The fire has scorched about 46 acres and is burning on land about 1.5 miles south of residential area, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. A helicopter made water drops on the brush fire early in the evening. Air operations have since been suspended.

About 3,300 homes were initially put on a pre-evacuation notice, said Sgt. Derek Castellano, of the sheriff’s office.

The notices were for residences in Highlands Ranch, including the Hearth and Back Country subdivisions. No structures have been damaged.

Rain fell on the fire area at about 10 p.m., the sheriff’s office said. Firefighters and law enforcement officials planned to stay on the fire scene working it overnight.
