GPS company Trimble has acquired 10-4 Systems, a Boulder firm that helps freight companies keep better track of their freight. Terms weren’t disclosed.

While Sunnyvale-based Trimble has operations in Boulder, Westminster and Englewood, 10-4 and its approximately 50 employees will remain in Boulder, according to Therese Pickard, 10-4’s director of marketing.

10-4 started inside Phoenix-based GlobalTranz in 2012 and moved to Boulder two years later. It  and raised $13.9 million in venture funding. CEO Travis Rhyan  at the time that the money would be used to focus on sales growth and product development.

The company’s technology helps transportation clients track where their shipments are en route and get better estimates on arrival times. It aggregates data and then shares predictive risks, location and temperature data with the client.

“With the addition of 10-4 Systems, Trimble will significantly enhance its ability to help the transportation industry optimize demand and capacity management and improve utilization of long-haul trucking assets,” Trimble Transportation Enterprise President David Wangler said in a statement released this week.

Rhyan will still oversee 10-4 Systems as executive vice president and general manager.

Excluding 10-4 Systems, Trimble said it employs more than 750 people in Colorado.
