A Denver man who was fatally shot in Las Vegas was there to celebrate his birthday.

Chris Roybal, 28, a Navy veteran who served in Afghanistan, is among the victims, according to , Denver 7.

, to help his family with funeral costs, hoped to raise $15,000. About 9 p.m. Monday, the page had raised $11,643.

“I see the impact he had on all of us around him, and he will be greatly missed,” said LeeAnn Klein, who started the fundraiser.

Roybal had moved to Denver from California in February.

Alexandria Erkelens, a friend of Roybal, said on Facebook: “We miss you and love you. Colorado won’t be the same without you.”
