is just around the corner, and while organizers at the Denver Film Society are still filling in dozens of details, the red carpet and award-nominated films .

Director Greta Gerwig’s “Lady Bird,” starring Saoirse Ronan, will open the festival with a red carpet screening at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House on Nov. 1, while “I, Tonya,” directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Margot Robbie, will close it out at the same location on Nov. 11.

In between, the Nov. 1-12 festival will present more than 200 titles in competition and additional red carpet screenings such as Richard Levin’s festival Centerpiece film “Submission,” starring Stanley Tucci and Kyra Sedgwick (Nov. 3), the Big Night presentation of “Molly’s Game,” from writer-director Aaron Sorkin (starring Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba and Kevin Costner on Nov. 9) and the red-carpet matinee “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” from writer-director Martin McDonagh, starring Frances McDormand and Woody Harrelson (Nov. 11).

A special Spotlight Presentation of “Ballad of Lefty Brown,” starring Bill Pullman and Peter Fonda, will get its own red carpet screening at the UA Denver Pavilions on Nov. 8.

Along the way, the festival will present more than 200 features, documentaries and local films amid industry panels, workshops, awards and tributes, and a focus on Danish cinema, according to a press statement.

There’s no word yet on celebrities in attendance, although last year’s event drew “La La Land” star Emma Stone and director Damien Chazelle to the opening-night red carpet premiere, amid a total 57,000 attendees, according to the Denver Film Society.

The full festival program will be announced on Oct. 10, when single tickets will also go on sale to Denver Film Society members, with the general public able to buy them on Oct. 12. Tickets will be available for purchase online at or the DFF main box office location at the Sie FilmCenter, 2510 E. Colfax Ave.
