The Colorado State Patrol has identified a man who died  as 51-year-old Dale Stuart Sisson.

The cause of Sisson’s death has not been released.

On Friday at about 10 p.m., several witnesses reported that a man driving a pickup truck east on Interstate 70 appeared to be drunk.

A trooper tried to pull Sisson over at the I-70 and Colorado 58 interchange. The trooper saw a gun the state patrol said in a news release.

The trooper chased the truck driver as he fled east on Colorado 58 and excited the highway to McIntyre Street. Sisson lost control of the pickup and drove off the paved road.

At about 10:19 p.m., trooper told the dispatcher that shots were again fired. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Jefferson County critical incident team has been investigating. The trooper was not injured.
