A four-man crew of Berthoud Fire Protection District firefighters was deployed to California on Monday to assist in the response to the massive wildland fires burning in the Golden State.

Engine boss Jesse Treater along with firefighters Alec Huggins, Ryan Ruuland and Chris Robison prepared the Berthoud fire department’s Type 3 Wildland Fire Engine to man in the fires, a press release from the department said.

The crew is currently en route to the Prodo mobilization center in Chino, Calif., where they will join 25 other crews responding from Colorado, the release said. The Berthoud firefighters expect to arrive around 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Each Colorado crew will be assigned to various fires from the mobilization center, the release said.

The 25 crews from Colorado converged in Mesquite, Nev. on Monday night and drove down all 25 engines down the highway together, the release said.
