In Colorado treasurer’s race, GOP Rep. Polly Lawrence sprints out to huge fundraising lead

The Douglas County Republican raised about $90,000 last quarter; among Democrats, first-time politician Bernard Douthit leads the way with roughly $29,000

In the Colorado state treasurer’s race, Republicans out-raised Democrats more than 3 to 1 in the third fundraising quarter, with the lion’s share going to .

The Douglas County Republican raised $90,300 in the third quarter and spent $28,499, according to the latest financial disclosures for the fundraising period ending Sept. 30.

That leaves Lawrence with $61,801 on hand in the race to succeed state , who is term-limited in 2018 and is running for governor.

, R-Berthoud, raised $20,526, while , a prosecutor, raised $16,188. Rounding out the GOP field, raised $11,264, and , R-Littleton, pulled in $9,170 in contributions.

Denver businessman Bernard Douthit, a first-time politician, reported $29,445 in fundraising to lead the Democratic field, but the bulk of his funding came from $20,000 he loaned his campaign. He closed the period with $25,341 on hand. , D-Thornton, raised $12,350.

Updated 2:21 p.m. on Oct. 19, 2017:An incorrect reference to quarterly campaign contributions for state Rep. Justin Everett has been changed. The Littleton Republican raised $9,170.
