COLORADO SPRINGS — is being held without bail on suspicion of two counts of first-degree murder.
Malik Vincent Murphy appeared in court by video Wednesday wearing handcuffs and a suicide smock, a thick-padded garment.
Investigators say Murphy told them he carried out Tuesday’s attack so he could be alone in the house. He allegedly bought a knife several months ago with the plan of killing his entire family and burying the bodies in the backyard.

Officers called to the home tried to save Murphy’s 5-year-old sister and 7-year-brother, who died at the hospital.
The father told investigators he was sleeping in his bedroom with his wife when he heard screaming. He said the teen had previously talked about killing his family.
