The Denver defense consistently answered the bell and got the ball back for its beleaguered offense

Grades for Broncos

Offense: F. The Broncos were shut out for the first time in 394 games, a streak that dated back to 1992. That was the only number that mattered in a dreadful performance.

Defense: B-. The Denver defense consistently answered the bell and got the ball back for its beleaguered offense. But the unit was worn down during a 6-minute Chargers TD drive in the fourth quarter.

Special teams: D-. On a day when the Broncos’ offense was at its worst, the punt return touchdown the Broncos surrendered in the first quarter was all Los Angeles needed.

Coaching: D-. The Broncos enjoyed a rare advantage Sunday: a crowd at its back on the road. But the staff couldn’t find any adjustments to spark an offense that continues to regress.


Game balls

, Chargers WR. The speedy Benjamin fielded a low, line-drive punt on one bounce and sprinted 65 yards for the game’s first touchdown. He added a fourth-quarter TD reception that put the game away.

Joey Bosa, Chargers DE. The former Ohio State star registered two of the Chargers’ five sacks of . Melvin Ingram had a sack and had a second one negated by a penalty.

Drew Kaser, Chargers P. Kaser had a net punting average of 44.8 yards. His first punt of the third quarter was a 69-yard effort that pined Denver’s feeble offense at its own 1-yard line.
