Members of Rocky Mountain Rescue carry down the body of Erik Kleiber after he fell to his death while climbing the First Flatiron on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017.

The Boulder County Coroner’s Office on Friday identified the climber  as 31-year-old Erik Kleiber, of Boulder.

The coroner’s office has conducted an autopsy, but the cause and manner of Kleiber’s death on Thursday are still being investigated, according to a news release.

Rescuers from Rocky Mountain Rescue Group removed Kleiber’s body from the First Flatiron after the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a person who had fallen.

Thursday’s death marks the second time since August that a person has been killed in an accidental fall from the First Flatiron, an iconic Boulder landmark to the west of the city.

Carter Christensen, 17, fell from the landmark in August, roughly an hour after taking a photo of himself and announcing on social media he had climbed to the top without any gear.
