Denver auditor planning to examine city’s use-of-force policies, airport finances in coming year

Denver’s auditor is planning to take a close look at the , and in the coming year.

Elected auditor Timothy O’Brien’s office says he chose those subjects, and several others, after talking with elected officials and community leaders. He also is slated to scrutinize and cybersecurity.

But plans could change, depending on “relevant events throughout the next year,” the Denver Auditor’s Office said.

When it comes to O’Brien’s dive into the Department of Safety’s use-of-force guidelines, , he says he plans to examine how they’ve been implemented and their effectiveness.

“We plan to look into whether the Department of Safety follows its own guidelines and acts with the safety of everyone in mind,” O’Brien said in a written statement.

The Denver Department of Public Safety said it welcomes the additional review.

“Various internal and external stakeholders have been involved in reviewing the police and sheriff departmentap use of force policies in recent years,” spokeswoman Daelene Mix said.
