Despite the ease of an all-mail ballot, only of registered voters cast votes in Tuesday’s election in Arapahoe County. I overheard people saying things like, “I don’t know who any of those people are.” Guess what, folks — not all candidates are reality TV stars or famous singers, etc. They are extra-ordinary citizens who have stepped up to participate in the functioning of our government at all levels. They and their supporters work hard to inform you of who they are and what they stand for.
How many times did you turn away a person at your door, or hang up on a robocall, or toss campaign literature in the trash? How many times did you not bother to read local newspaper articles, editorials, endorsements? How many times did you not bother to call party headquarters to inquire about the candidates?
It is your responsibility to inform yourself and make an educated choice. So next time you complain about your local government, ask yourself these questions.
