Re: “,” Nov. 16 business news story.

What is wrong with this picture? In October Jeff Bezos, the owner of Amazon, became the richest man in the world with more than $90 billion in wealth. Yet he is trying to extort financial incentives from local and state governments to entice him to establish a second Amazon headquarters. Bezos specified in his request for proposals he wants financial incentives to not only “offset initial capital outlay” but even “ongoing operational costs” as a “key preference” in deciding where to locate.

Folks, this means taxpayer-funded giveaways. Colorado already does not have the resources to deal with rapid growth and a steadily declining urban infrastructure, especially impacting roadways, utilities, and storm drainage. Why in the world is Colorado offering this mega-billionaire any financial incentives? It seems we can find a better use for our tax payments.
