The City Council signed off Monday on a $162 million operations and maintenance contract for Denver International Airport’s underground train .

DIA officials also plan to expand the system’s capacity by 2020, with the net addition of 10 train cars to the transportation system linking the concourses to the terminal. But those were not part of the seven-year contract with Bombardier Transportation Holdings USA, the original manufacturer.

The council approved the maintenance contract in an 11-0 block vote.

This year, the council approved big expansions to accommodate growing passenger traffic at DIA, which also has put strain on the underground train. In coming years, one project will carry out  of the terminal building, while are planned across all three concourses.
