In regard to Laura Lefler Herzog’s column, there are some details about organ donation that your readers may not realize. In Colorado it is very easy to become an organ donor at . After death the wishes of the donor are carried out. Transplant doctors, who are different from the physician giving the patient care, determine whether organs can be used.
My son has received organ donations twice, first a double lung transplant, and about eight years later a single lung transplant. He would not be alive today without these transplants. We are so grateful for those people who either said “yes” on their drivers’ license or registered as donors on the website.
I urge everyone to become a donor to reduce the number of people who die every day while they are waiting for an organ.
