Man charged in shooting death of teen in McDonald’s parking lot

Denver District Attorney Beth McCann has filed charges against a 22-year-old man in connection with the .

Francisco Gonzalez and 17-year-old Steve Soledad-Lopez got in an argument Friday night after Gonzalez accused the teen of hitting his car while driving through the crowded parking lot of the fast-food restaurant just east of the West Alameda Avenue and South Federal Boulevard intersection.

The DA alleges that Gonzalez shot Soledad-Lopez after the brief altercation and then fled the parking lot with his friends both on foot and in Gonzalez’s car. His vehicle was abandoned shortly after police tried to stop it.

Soledad-Lopez was , where he was pronounced dead, according to the Denver coroner’s office.

Police learned that Gonzalez was heading to California on a Greyhound bus, according to the DA’s office. He was arrested Sunday when the bus made a scheduled stop in Las Vegas, according to the DA’s office.

Extradition has not been scheduled yet. Gonzalez has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and a count of possession of a weapon by a previous offender. Gonzalez has previously been found guilty of burglary, according to records from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
