Kudos to Anne Rowe, current Denver Public Schools board president, for putting students first in her proposal to temporarily suspend the 1987 conflict-of-interest policy that will allow newly elected school board member Carrie Olson to finish her semester with her students. It is always encouraging to see evidence of leadership that truly values students’ needs above and beyond mundane policies. Teachers work hard to create communities of learners within their classrooms. Valuing this individual, classroom standard above all else is essential for student success. It is good to know that DPS school board leaders understand this need, and that they are committed to making it happen not only for Olson’s students, but for all students and teachers in every DPS classroom.
