Newly minted Colorado state Rep. Judy Reyher from Swink is not a run-of-the-mill, uninformed bigot. Most don’t want to be known for what they truly think, feel and believe about anyone not like them. But Reyher proudly announced to The Denver Post that black people “hate white people with a passion,” and “the black community and the Democrats are the most racist group of people that exist.” Her words cannot simply be dismissed as hyperbole from a politician. Her words are absurd and hurtful. I can only hope that the Republicans in the legislature and in her district denounce her. I urge the The Post to watch carefully how she comports herself when “those people” appear before her at a committee hearing, and what legislation she puts forward. As a life-long resident of Colorado, I am embarrassed that she is a part of the people’s legislature.
